We need a new team leader!

As the leader of the team we would call you the District Commissioner (DC).

In a nutshell, the DC would be: Inspiring and
enthusiastic, super resourceful and full of
energy. A problem solver, fantastic team
builder and leader. Believe passionately about
developing young people and adult volunteers
to be there best.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to local young people.

Forest of Dean Scouts won’t be the only one to benefit – so what’s in it for you?

Being a DC, will look great on your CV, demonstrating to prospective employers that you have some amazing additional skills. Don’t worry if you are new to Scouts, that’s no problem, we will teach you everything you need to know, and our award-winning training scheme even leads to a certified qualification.

Volunteering with Scouting can be as flexible as you need so if you are worried that you won’t have enough time why not consider a role share within a small team.

We are here to fill you in on the details, so if you want to know more, please do get in touch with the DC search team via email : DCSearch@forestofdeanScouts.org

We will send you a vacancy pack and we are more than happy to have a chat about the role and how you may be able to take on this very important role.

There are many ways that you can apply or nominate someone else – why not give it a go and try one of them.

We would love to hear from you by 19th July 2021.

Thank you for your time so far and please do shout if you have any queries at all!

You’re the best

There’s isn’t anyone who hasn’t been affected by the world pandemic. It has placed extreme pressure on our health, wellbeing, finances, jobs and families. However all the adult volunteers in Scouting have done their best to keep things going and provide young people with activities to keep their spirits up to ensure they continue to enjoy Scouting. It doesn’t matter how large or small the contribution – everyone has ‘done their best’ to make sure we all have the courage and support to rise to the challenges of Covid-19.

As District Commissioner for the Forest of Dean, I am so proud and humbled by the continuing efforts every adult volunteer has contributed to Scouting. No adult has found it easy to juggle family, work and scouting, but remarkably all our adult volunteers have done just that. Many young people have sent messages of support saying how much they have appreciated the online activities provided during this time. It has kept them going and given them hope for the future.

My request from you is that you share this post with as many adult volunteers as possible so we can all recognise the continuing effort everyone is making to keep Scouting going.

Don’t forget, on top of this, you can nominate adults for awards if you feel they have exceeded the expectations of their role. Brian, our Awards Committee Lead would love to hear from you. His email address is awards@forestofdeanscouts.org.

Returning to face-to-face Scouting

We’re on our way back from the restrictions put in place since the lockdown in March. All our Scout Groups and Units are reviewing their venues and practices to ensure they can meet social distancing rules and ensure there is provision for handwashing and cleaning of equipment and surfaces.

Each Group/Unit will re-open when they are ready. Existing members will be informed and places offered. Waiting lists will resume, so if you are interested in joining, please do get in touch.
